I just came across D2RQ, a notation (plus implementation) for mapping relational databases to RDF, developed over the last four years by Chris Bizer, Richard Cyganiak and others at Freie Universität Berlin. The W3C has recently approved the creation of the Linked Data Platform (LDP) Working Group. It has about 330 pages and shows you the practical side of RDF.
